Detention, created between 2009 to 2014,documents youth residing in detention centers and group homes across Connecticut. The youth I work with to create Detention were under the age of 18 and as a result, could not show their faces and/or any identifying marks in the photographs we took. I hope that with this body of work, which incorporates text, found objects, and paint, helps give a positive visual representation to young people that are all too often forgetten.
For several years, I photography and mixed media workshops to girls between the ages of 11-16 at residential detention centers for girls who were a part of the Connecticut Juvenile Court System. These images document the young people I worked with and their feelings, hopes, and dreams.
